If you're wondering how to start 2024 in a way you don't end up like the end of 2023, this is for you.

Here's how you make 2024 better than 2023

Take some time to review your 2023

To do this, ask yourself these questions:

How was my 2023?
What did I do to achieve the goals I'd set?
Why did I fail to achieve those goals?
What challenges did I face in my approach to meeting those goals?

Reviewing your past year will provide insights into finding out the mistakes you made last year, which led to the failures you had last year.

That way, you will learn your lessons and come up with better strategies to turn your 2024 goals into reality.

That way you won't be prone to making the same mistakes this year, which you made last year.

For this reason, I recommend you jot down all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learned, answering the questions above.

Judge yourself for those failures

The truth is, we all like to judge others for the bad things that happen to us. We don't like to hold ourselves accountable for the shitty situations we find ourselves in.

I know it's very pleasurable to roast others for our mistakes and misfortune. But I want to challenge you to something a little different this year. I want you to adopt a different mindset this year.

Instead of blaming others for the failures you had, be daring, so daring to judge yourself for those failures.

The reason is:

You're the author of your success
You're responsible for your success
Only you're responsible for your failures.

Instead of relying on others to help you achieve your goals, push yourself to get to the finish line – remember everyone can start a race but only the one who hits the finish line is the winner. So push yourself to become this winner.

Learn to negotiate with yourself

You know how important negotiations are for businesses. You know how crucial it is to negotiate with other people for the success of your business.

What you probably don't know or didn't know in 2023 is the importance of negotiating with yourself.

And you may be good at negotiating with others. But are you good at negotiating with yourself?

"Leonel, what do you mean negotiating with myself?" You wonder

Well, as you'd do with others, negotiating with yourself is:

Challenging yourself to change for the better
Coaching yourself to the success you envision
Having that negative or positive self-talk
Managing the two conflicting inner voices in your head
Saying no to the inner voice urging you to take aimless actions with no benefit in sight
Saying yes to that inner voice convincing you to take action that brings you closer to reaching your goals – the voice that shows the great things you can achieve if you do a certain activity

You have to do this for a reason. If you want to be successful in 2024, you have to stop being this person who just wakes up and rushes into doing things without having thought things over.

Instead of rushing things, pause to question everything you're thinking of doing and consider asking yourself if there's any benefit in pursuing what one of your inner voices is telling you to.

The reason you have to negotiate with yourself is this:

Not every voice you hear in your head is for your benefit
Not every voice you hear inside you has your goal in mind
Some voice in mind has the mind of its own
Some voice is there only to distract you from reaching your goals – ready to destroy you.

So learn to say no not only to the people around you but also to yourself (your inner voice). Because not everything you think – which one of your inner tells you – is good for you.

Invest in great relationships

You're a social human being for a reason: believe it or not, your success in life is shaped or determined not by you but by the people you surround yourself with – aka your network.

For example ⤵

You may have a lot of money today and wake up completely broke a few months later if you are surrounded by people whose main job is to help you waste your money every day.

Conversely, you may be completely broke today but wake up a few months later greeted by an amazing job offer in your inbox.

"How?" You wonder. And the answer is, "That job offer may come from the least expected place you imagine.

That job offer may be a result of a referral from one of your amazing connections – a close LinkedIn connection you have been friends with and have been supporting for a while.

This makes it clear your net worth is determined by your network (your connections aka the people you surround yourself with).

Then, here's what I suggest you do:

Stop living for yourself in 2024
Start building amazing connections online
Start turning those LinkedIn connections into amazing friends

And you do this by:

Stopping overlooking other creators' content
Starting engaging with their posts and supporting them
Stopping being daunted by sending DMs
Start sending DMs more often

It's time you create your tribe online. It's time you develop the habit of consistently supporting your connections.

Do this all year long and watch where this leads you – there will be amazing surprises, for sure. And you'll be able to meet all of your goals.

Become your own servant

It's important to serve others, of course – that's what you're in the world for. But even more important is the need to become your own servant.

Here's what I mean:

Stop being a people's pleaser
Learn to say no to toxic people
Know what's important to you and your biz
Know what your goals are and stick with them
Set boundaries that are beneficial to you and that lead you to reaching your goals

Most importantly, know what serves you and what does not – instead of keeping on saying yes to everything that's presented before you.

You've got to do this because, when you say yes to something, you're automatically saying no to something else.

And you're on your way to regretting if you say yes to something mediocre now and you're later presented with something better – that aligns with your goals.

You're on your way to regretting it because you may no longer have any room left for you to take on another responsibility.

The problem here is, you'll be forced to say no to something you always wanted just because you already kept yourself busy with something mediocre you never wanted in the first place.

Save & save for no reason

Needless to say, you need money to do most things in this world. You need money to accomplish what you want in 2024.

Who knows? Maybe you didn't achieve your goals last year because you didn't have enough money to meet them.

This is why and where you have to save and save even for no reason. Here you have to save money essentially for the sake of saving.

You have to do this because life is full of surprises. The money you're aimlessly saving can save your life tomorrow, which remains uncertain to you and me.

If you're lucky to have a job. Spend your hard-earned money on what matters – food on the table, a roof over your head, and clothes on your body, so you don't walk around naked.

Invest 70% of your dollar

This is the amount you need to be putting aside and saving every month – yes 70% of your income. Hopefully, you have an incurring source of income to meet your basic needs, save, and invest 70% of your income in what you believe in – the businesses or products you believe in.

That way, your money (your asset) will be working for you – bringing in more revenue and fattening your wallet.

Live bare minimum

This is exactly what you have to be doing to save and invest your money. Is it easy? No. Is it doable? Yes.

It's hard because you need to resist the desire to treat yourself to something. You need to say no to instant gratification.

You have to be willing to sacrifice your appetite and the urge to use up your dollar in the hope of making more tomorrow – who/what guarantees you you'll make more tomorrow?

So hold what you have or you'll lose it and start crying for the unknown tomorrow.
